The pop girls were always the main focus, but yeah there were more fans of other genres. These days almost everyone has a pop girl as their #1 fave. I'm not sure when it happened, it was a gradual development. I think the introduction of warning points made stan wars more like a game that could be won, and that really turned us into stan central.
I prefer to stan for someone who is not a pop girl tbh. Like I do enjoy them, and I would buy albums off them, but I'm not really into stanning for them. The whole stan culture thing among pop girl stans seem to be quite ugly anyway
