We can never know how Venus would have performed, but I agree here. Any time I've played Venus for other people, they've found it cringeworthy, whereas everyone I know loves Do What U Want. It's my most played Gaga song and despite the drama that surrounded it, it's an amazing piece of work.

And I love every single version of it, R. Kelly's being the best, imo. I don't understand the hate for the Rick Ross version either

I like how effortlessly she turned the song into a ballad. This is probably the sound we can expect for the next album.

Right? Venus is so offputting at first...but you can totally start to get into it after a while. The beat is very funky in a good kind of way. But now we'll never know how it would have fared.

DWUW is the most tragic incident in Gaga's career imo. This song had everything it took to potentially blow up. But the decision to make it a single was so last minute it hurt the songs chances. Troy should have let Gaga keep Venus, watched it flop, then have Gaga put this song out about a month or two after the last bit of (short-lived) promo for Venus. Give people some time to forget the bridge. lol.

That's true, it could have been a Roar-Uncle-Dark Horse situation (just not as big). DWUW was hurt by Applause's longevity.

Love the version with Xtina live but they did a terrible job mixing them together on the track. I don't know why they didn't release it the day that that happened, it would have given some more life to that song. Oh well.
