When you're renowned for making companies pay millions of dollar just so they can air a short commercial in your show because of the high exposure, it's only logical in that business that performers pay to play their songs during the event. As if NFL only came up with the idea just now, y'all are beyond ignorant.

Oh please. They literally just came out and said publicly that they were going to start charging artist, which made the possible list of performers gawk at that. Coldplay, Katy, and a few others stated they weren't OK with the idea, but the NFL enforced it anyway. Perhaps your the one being ignorant. If they always charged artist to perform I'm sure Katy, Coldpay, and the rest of the industry would be aware and have no reason to protest the idea.
Actually you are right about one thing. They are now charging because of that (just like commercials getting so much buzz and having to pay for a coveted spot, they realize the performers get a boost as well). They realize just like commercials they can capitalize off performers since they get such an increase. Which is why the rule to charge for performing was implemented this year and so on.
