Also would it be an entire season for one crime.. or each episode a different crime.. the first would probably drag.. the latter would be far too confusing for the ensemble cast theme.

This worries me. Ryan Murphy is generally a terrible director and always starts strong but falls off so hard by the end that his shows just end up leaving a bad taste in your mouth. I hope this doesn't detract from AHS.

Sounds like it would have been a better plot idea for season 5, with using cases like the Amnityville Horror or the Black Dahlia murders. There's a lot of horror that can be taken from real life murders, idk why he needs to do ANOTHER show.
