first thing first, gays are not fully accepted in Italy. There is still lots of prejudice and discrmination even if not as in your face as before.
Second, gays cannot receive basic rights like family tax benefits or the widow pension that straights can obtain in Italy. How is that spoiled?

Tell that to the gays in the west that can't adopt. Can't see their dying partner (if they were in a fatal accident) in hospital, can't teach in private schools, can't marry the person they love, can't walk into a straight club without being judged, can't join certain churches, have to turn on the tv and watch straight people talk about their rights, are not consiered equal under the eyes of the law in their country, are still bullied in school - the list goes on.
