I personally believe that some people are misunderstanding her statement. I took it as she doesn't want to be known as "that gay child star" or "that African-American child star", rather, she wants to be known as being herself.

Of course, it's easier to jump to the conclusion that she's just ashamed of being those things and attack her for it.

I agree with this 98% (don't agree with the Raven shade!). I'm tired of this trend as well. Labels can be used against someone, but they can also be used to help someone. Saying the words 'I am gay' out loud really made the world of difference for me. I've met plenty of these "label less" people and they really seem more afraid than certain. I've never met Raven so I don't know but

You don't get to decide that for her though. It doesn't matter what you glean from her run-ins with media. It's her life and only she gets to say what she's attracted to. If she says she's attracted to everyone then that's that.

It's the same as celebs that say they're straight. Whether we get gay vibes from them or not means nothing. If they're really gay, they will address it when and if they're ready. And that's their right. We don't know what Raven does in her personal life, and it's not our place to tell her what she is.

I feel like people are taking the "no labels, but I'm American" thing a little too literally. She probably means that she just doesn't like the idea of these types of labels we use to put people into different groups. At the end of the day, we're all just people. If you were born in America, you're American by default. And since she can't trace her roots back to one single place, she prefers to just be called "American", because she's not JUST black/AA. She's also other stuff.

Also, taking issue with the fact that in the US, if you're any shade of brown and you can't easily fit into any other brown race, people basically just call you African-American. Like, you can be dark and not be from Africa.
