So we're inclined not to laugh at the people we're attracted to? How does that work?

I assume it's on the level of mental attraction, not physical, that determines who we find funnier.
I mean, take a look at ATRL: females are the prominent figure to fill the role of a member's idol. I also assume a lot of the homosexual male members get along with females much better than males (apart from other homosexuals) as friends, so mentally we seem to be drawn to females in both cases, thus finding them funnier.
The reverse could be said for straight males. They idolise males and have friendships with males over females and as a result, form mental bonds with males and find them funnier.
(This could also explain why we find our same sex crushes funny and not same sex celebrity crushes funny, as we often have direct contact with our crushes and not only find them attractive physically, but mentally.)
Although this idea is founded on a great deal of generalisations, stereotypes and assumptions, so take it with a grain of salt...
