They probably genuinely did though. Pretty much everyone loved Gaga in 2008-2010, at least some of her songs. It's just that instead of going from fan to not-a-fan, some extremists went from fan to hater. Either way it's kinda dumb, but I really doubt that many people would bother saying they were a fan if they never were, that's just making themselves look bad.
Perhaps I am a little naive, but as someone who doesn't stan for success I just can't imagine why people would drop her in the BTW era, especially seeing as she still had #1 single, #1 album, successful tour, millions of albums sold WW etc... there's plenty for the success stans to have. But the music was a lot less mainstream pop which would be understandable why some may lose interest. That's just my take on it though.

You know, I didn't like Gaga back then it was just too much of everything back then. Yes she slayed and what not but you would be Gaga forcefed and it was more about her show and theatrics.
She's matured now as all women, people, do. It changes everything and it reflects in music.
Personally I love the mature sound, she's evolved and I'm happy with that. Maybe that's something tho in my nature since I'm older then the pop stars right now (Katy, Gaga, Brit etc). I cannot digest those cotton candy pop songs, which is a reason Katy is such a turn off, besides the fact that she got half the amount of talent.
