I'm sure they give them some money to survive. Like to buy food and stuff.
Those kind of contracts are actually not impossible. I was watching E! and there was this boy band that did not get to be huge but they toured and sold many albums, however the band members made $0 because when they signed the contract they were desperate and foolish.
