ADELE
What we've heard: Not a whole lot, frankly. Despite the excitement surrounding her highly anticipated follow-up to Grammy Award juggernaut 21, the British chanteuse has merely hinted at a 2014 release. She tweeted a picture of herself back in May with the caption, "Bye bye 25 ... See you again later in the year" — a suggestion which stirred speculation, given that her two previous albums were named for the ages at which she recorded them.
Likelihood: Debatable. With no other indication of an imminent release, she may not release her third album until 2015, says Ian Drew, entertainment director at Us Weekly.
KANYE WEST
What we've heard: When he's not frequenting fashion shows with wife Kim Kardashian and baby North West, Kanye has been hosting intimate listening parties for his new album over the past few months, attended by musicians such as London DJ Jason Powell and rapper Theophilus London, who tweeted Tuesday that the album "isn't finish(ed)." As for other details about his Yeezus follow-up: Kanye promises just eight songs, Q-Tip says he's producing with Rick Rubin, and it may be led by single All Day, which leaked in August.
Likelihood: High. "
He's been studying and learning from how U2 and Beyoncé did their surprise releases, but he's not going to do it in the exact same way — he's always going to do something different," Drew says.
RIHANNA
What we've heard: Like Madonna, a flurry of collaborators have been linked to Rihanna's new album, including singers Ty Dolla $ign and Ne-Yo, and songwriters Ester Dean and Kiesza. The only clue we've gotten from RiRi has come from her Twitter: In June, she tweeted a photo of a mixing board with the hashtag #R8, perhaps referencing her eighth album following 2012's Unapologetic.
Likelihood: Possible. "There's definitely a need for (a new Rihanna album)," Drew says. "There's been a lot of copycats recently and she needs to show all these other pop divas how it's done."
