Born This Way has to more to offer in its image/theme/lyrics (album not the era!) but TFM does have some of Gaga's best produced songs. TFM is the better pop album, but BTW is the better overall album.
I wish more people would realize this. For better or for worse, and intentionally or accidentally, she (arguably) sacrificed a good chunk of her "cool factor" to help people. If that's not saint-like, I don't know what is.
She probably thought it was going to help her sales.
