Ghost - 10/10 - Easily my favorite single for the year. Empire - 10/10 - This song is massive and I was so unprepared for that tempo change in the bridge. Glow - 10/10 - Not on the same level as the other tens, but I feel it'd be unfair not to give it one. Others set the bar way too high. It is still an anthem with it's "glow-oh-oh-ohs." Yours - 10/10 - This song is phenomenal yet so simple. Mirror Man - 10/10 - This song is a bop and her vocals are top notch. Hard Work - 10/10 - The lyrics to this song. I felt like Ella was teaching me life lessons and motivating me to get off my lazy behind. ****. Pieces - 10/10 - The bop of the album (behind Ghost for me, though). Love how almost every line references the previous line. Such a skilled lyricist to pull that off and it still make sense. The First Time - 7/10 - I feel like this should have been made one of the deluxe tracks. It gets trampled on by the other standard tracks but it is still great. All Again - 9/10 - This bitch slaying with those vocals and that Disney princess delivery of some of the lines. Give Your Heart Away - 9/10 - I found the chorus to be a bit annoying on its own in the snippets but the verses made up for it. It's a good song just undeserving of a ten. Rockets - 9/10 - I feel like this is her generic song of the album but even her generic is on another level from everyone else's. Lay Down - 10/10 - I almost cried bye Missed - 7/10 - Never been very fascinated with this but given she made it on her own and without it we wouldn't have her, it's still a good song. Billie Holiday - 10/10 - The last thirty seconds of this song are so happy and take me to church. Beautifully Unfinished - 10/10 - Why is this a bonus? This song was slaying careers when it was just a snippet on Soundcloud. I'm very confused. Nonetheless, the song is soooo good and that chorus >>>. 1996 - 7/10 - Kewt. Loved the Lizzie reference. A bit anticlimactic though. Five Tattoos - 7/10 - Better executed live but it's still a great display of her vocals. Giants - 8/10 - Perfect for a closer.
Also, can we have a moment of silence for "Lay Down"? It almost brought me to tears, does anyone know the story behind it? I assume it was about a dying relative or something.
