About Jessica's situation, I think all good points were already discussed, but let's not act like her building her brand didn't cause some envy on some people. I mean, aside from SM's point of view (strictly economic) forbiding her of using SNSD's name to promote her brand without receiving for it, I don't think it's impossible that some members may have felt a bit of jealousy...

SNSD has been doing one comeback a year since 2011. Based off of SNSD's last two comebacks thats barely a month promotions. They'll probably release a Japanese album that year which means 3 music videos which can literally be shot in a day.

If Jessica wanted to do both she could have. SM clearly wanted her to focus on the group which is weird considering their #fading status.
