Newport is heaven. Its been our family's vacation spot since 30 years before I was born and we still go every year
my sister married a california boy and their family rents a beach house (you know those colorful townhouses like 15mns away from the pierre?) she says its beautiful every year...i've only been once

NorCal has the technology and resources of the state
but SoCal is good because it has lots of people in general.
To have a better living situation: NorCal
For connections/knowing people: SoCal

i'm tied
I've lived in both regions and I prefer Norcal. But I'll list the pros and cons based on my own opinions.
Norcal Pros:
- More educated people
- Better weather
- Higher paying jobs
- Less ghetto areas
- Less driving is required (lower gas bill)
Cons:
- Ridiculously high cost of living
- Parking is a pain
Socal Pros:
- South OC is beautiful
- More car friendly.
Cons:
- More uneducated and trashy people
- More rude drivers
- Dirtier, more smog, pollution, litter
- Weather is hot as hell and overrated, unless you're right next to the beach.
- Most areas are ghetto and undesirable to live in, the few nice areas are super expensive.

Unless you want to break into the entertainment industry, you likely will find better (even if fewer) connections in Norcal. What industry isn't related to tech nowadays?
