I knew the name of the only party taking control of China is communist party, but why we still call China a communist country right now?

I am writing about an essay about China's booming economy for my Eco class, after searching a lot of information I found that clearly China does capitalism better than any other real capitalist countries in the world now. But why people are still calling China a red communist country? This makes me really confused.

The 20 biggest companies in China are all state-owned. Not exactly the glowing example of capitalism.

They're not communist or democratic. IMO communism would be wonderful, but isn't possible. It just leads to authoritarian governments like the Stalin's Soviet Union, today's China, and Cuba.

Basically, the Cold War wasn't capitalism vs. communism; it was democratic vs. authoritarian governments.

Communism is ideal but unachievable. Pure capitalism where there are no regulations is bad (see the late 1800s). Therefore, democracy and regulated capitalism (essentially the current western model) is as good as we're going to ever get.

Why did I write this essay tho

Communism is a very narrow spectrum of practices; most I've heard refer to its economy as a command economy and the country itself as somewhat socialist. I'm no expert, though.

I highly recommend these two TED talk for some less Eurocentric views on China's political system, and the country itself. Keep an open mind, there are many facts you will never hear from the Western media, which you might find interesting and very surprising.

Probably because it started out as a communist country and has basically kept the same form of government even though its economy has changed.

Communism is the antithesis of democracy, not capitalism. It's amazing how many people, including Americans, forget this.

Lol no. The government has undergone several changes of the fundamental kind since its establishment in 1949, on scales unimaginable to democratic societies. It may sound counterintuitive, but China has arguably the most pragmatic and flexible government in the world.

The party is literally still called the Communist Party of China (CPC) no?

Since when are "same form of government" and "same name of the party" synonyms?

Not touching the communism stuff, but in a truly literal sense the antithesis of democracy would most likely be totalitarianism.
