A I never go over the top for acrobatic purposes. I go to the limit -- the crescendos or whatever you want to call them -- because I want to make that moment where the person, if they're watching this song live, they'll bust into applause. If you want to talk vocal gymnastics, Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé and Mariah [Carey], these three do way more gymnastics with their voice than I would demand of them. That's their style -- even though I love all three of those singers. When we were doing "The Bodyguard," Whitney [Houston] had this thing where she would do this little lick at the end of the line -- it was her style and it was nice enough. Taste-wise, I thought that was over the top but in an entirely different way. It's just taste.
