Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee recently noted that for the time being, the band is essentially over, pointing out how refreshing she finds her newfound liberty as a solo artist.
"I'm enjoying this new space," she told Billboard. "Evanescence has been wonderful, and I've gotten to do so many things with it. I'm really proud of that, and I have been for a long time.
"But at the same time, I feel like I have a lot more that I want to do with my life and a lot more that I want to express, and there's only so much that people are going to allow Evanescence to be," the singer added.
"People hear the word Evanescence and they associate it with 'My Immortal.' We were working on that when I was, like, 15 years old, so now that I'm 32, you get into a different headspace where you're like, 'I need a new space to be able to be myself now,'" Lee continued.
"At the same time Evanescence is such a huge part of my life and has grown with me. It's still really close to my heart and close to who I am now. So it's all good, but mixed emotions to be sure."
Amy's latest work came in form of a soundtrack for Mark Jackson's movie "War Story." Titled "Aftermath," the record's compositions were a joint effort by Lee, Dave Eggar and Chuck Palmer.
"In Evanescence it's me, me, me - I'm the center of attention and it's all about me," she explained. "In something like [the film] it's actually me in a more supporting role and working with a bunch of other people to create something I couldn't create on my own, and that feels really good to me. It feels really nice to be able to release something that is not just mine."
"Aftermath" was released on August 25 via Amy's own label, debuting at No. 47 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Furthermore, the singer noted that she's been "casually" working on another film project, but has also been busy with her first child, son Jack Lion Hartzler, who was born on July 20. "It's crazy good," Lee said about motherhood. "It gives me a new perspective on life. I have new feelings I've ever felt before. I can't describe them, but it's going to be my mission, artistically, to define those things."
When it comes to her upcoming plans, Amy couldn't give more than a vague reply, but did mention a possibility of releasing new music with Evanescence. "Every time we've put out a record there's been a few years in between where I sort of needed to find myself again. But I really like to keep that open mind and have nothing in place in my head about what's going to happen a year or two down the line. I've got to wait for inspiration to tell me what to do next.
"I just love making music and I'm going to make music for the rest of my life; whether that means it's called Evanescence or not, I don't know," she concluded.

I wouldn't be surprised if they never release another album.

They literally released 3 studio albums and one of them just sucks. Such a shame.

They've been over for like a decade, whether by choice or not.

I don't think the book is fully closed yet, but I feel Amy isn't at a point where she wants to start a new chapter. I feel Amy wants to enjoy her new freedom as artist and wants to try different things that she was not able to do or create under the Evanescence Umbrella. I feel Evanescence may be pressuring to her. Not only do people expect a lot more from her when she releases stuff under that name, she also will always will be remembered of Fallen. I mean I feel she is still proud of what she accomplished during that era, but that album was her and Ben for a big part and I feel she personally closed that chapter for herself and wants to focus on different things, that's probably also why she has said a few times in recent interviews that she was young when she wrote and recorded that music, that music possibly isn't "her" anymore, since she is a grown woman and mother now and not that 15 year old girl who got a band with friends.
She really takes her time between records and I feel Evanescence will be back one day, but not in the next 5 years.

I still hope Evanescence will be back together
Amy and Ben Moody create MAGIC
I don't mind waiting 3-5, over even 10 years for another album from them

Eh. Really don't care about them since their last album. They had their great moments, but they were on a downward spiral for such a long time, that I just can't be bothered with them anymore.

I find it hard to believe that I need to impart this bit of knowledge to anyone, but here it is:
Evanescence was over the second The Open Door leaked and we saw just what a piece of **** the band was musically without Ben Moody.

Yes, but if their last album is any indication of how they were going to be in the future, I'm glad they stopped and left an amazing discography behind.
Amy always wanted to do a solo album, and the soundtrack album was a step into that path .. so hopefully we'll hear of her soon.
