Thought I'd bump this as I don't want it to close.

Just recently started re-watching Angel! Loving it! Although not quite as much as Buffy of course!

Season 6 was definitely the best. The show took a break from being monstery and dealt with psychological demons and the challenges of life itself, and it was wonderful. Plus the musical and Tabula Rasa are both in S6.

Season 5 is a close runner-up. The Body>>>

Anya was my favorite character. No filter at all, just gorgeous.

Seasons 5 & 6 are definitely like peak Buffy (though Once More With Feeling is easily my least fave episode of the entire show). Ugh, they both just have so many moments.

I've been tempted to start Angel. How good is it compared to Buffy?

It comes on Pivot. I've been able to catch a few of the earlier episodes. I mean, the whole show was great, but I usually watch the later seasons.

Anyway, the last season is life. I love when she gets beat by the Turok-Han. Idk, but there's something about her getting beat and calling back strong.

Season 5 is my favorite to rewatch, its such an epic season 3 is amazing too though, and I love 2 and 6 4 I kinda love/kind of hate, it really is a transitional season though, it helps move the series forward. 1 is a mess and 7 is alright, I always get sad during that season b/c I know the end is near, also most of the potentials are annoying af and I hate the forced Willow/Kennedy ****.

Better. I know that's hard to believe, I was skeptical too after watching Buffy, and yeah, Season 1 is a bit slow, but Seasons 2-4 are beyond amazing. So dark, so gritty, so wonderful. Cordelia becomes just unbelievably fantastic of a character and the Hyperion is a gorgeous backdrop for the show.

Huge ratings back in 1998-1998 for the season.

The Body surpassed it. So did Once More With Feeling, Selfless, Tabula Rasa, Normal Again, The Gift, Smashed, Wrecked, Gone, and several others.

Its avant-garde little silence gimmick notwithstanding, Hush is extremely overrated.

Completely agree with almost everything you said especially the part in bold but Season 1 was okay, not completely messy. It has one of my favourite Buffy episodes of all time ; Prophecy Girl.

Honestly, this is my third time attempting to finish Angel. I'm not overly keen but just want to finish it because I want to know what happens to some of the Buffy characters (not that I haven't already looked it up online) but I find it quite slow. I mean, they are still separate stories per episode with a long running storyline throughout the seasons like Buffy but I dunno, it just never felt as good to me.

Although since you didn't like OMWF as an episode, maybe you might like Angel since it's on the more serious side with elements of Buffy humour. I still find that each episodes monster/person or whatever it is, is a metaphor for a real life thing. Take the first four episodes for instance.

Episode 1 - Moving to L.A to become an actress only to discover that people take advantage of you and there are millions of other people exactly like you, so essentially broken dreams,
Episode 2 - I'd say it's a metaphor for an STD
Episode 3 - Vampire version of a child molester
Episode 4 - Stalker theme throughout

It's still definitely a good series and worth at least trying if you liked Buffy.

It has cameos from Oz, Willow, Faith, Buffy, Spike (eventually upgraded) etc...
Cordelia and Wesley are also main characters.
