He's not attractive (a common requirement for the general public), and frankly, he's not all that talented anymore, which critics can attest to ("Magna Carta Holy Grail," anyone?). He had his time in the late 90's/early 00's, but he's not a draw, in any sense of the word. Furthermore, he doesn't elevate Beyoncé's status or image. I have HBO, and I decided not to watch the "On The Run" special "live," simply because I couldn't fast forward through Jay Z's performances. Like the majority of America (and world), I have no interest in Jay Z, and do not wish to hear or see him. He doesn't attract audiences, he detracts them. If Beyoncé's special was solo, the ratings would have been higher, not that much higher, mind you, but still. Beyoncé needs to stop working with Jay Z on a professional level; all he does is damage her brand.

That was never a thing. And it never will be a thing, as these ratings clearly show.
