Yes, and for more than just this specific reason. Animals belong in the wild, not behind cages or in small enclosures and should definitely not be tortured to do things they wouldn't naturally do or things that simply don't want to do.

Yes. Humans really shouldn't constrain theses poor animals. At least make the exhibits huge and look natural

Zoos are needed to preserve species. Many of them are big targets for illegal poachers. They can literally bring an entire wild population to zero.

Maybe nature preserves would work better, but I don't understand how they stop people from going over the fence or w/e.

I don't agree with the concept of zoos at all and I won't ever go to another zoo in my life. Wild animals should remain in the wild, not locked up for people to gawk at daily. If a species is endangered, then I agree humans should intervene to help protect the species but they should do so in nature reserves, which are much better and less exploitative of the animals. If an animal isn't endangered, then humans shouldn't interact with them at all, simple as that.

I prefer wildlife reservations to zoos. In the reservation, they live the same life as they would in the wild (in some cases), they're just protected and watched over. Zoos I don't like, because it's like they're showcasing the animal and having them as an exhibit which I don't stand for.

As for the boy, it may sound cold but I can't get angry with a WILD animal who saw the boy (a stranger) come in and attacked him. It's unfortunate that he passed away, though.

Zoos are important for public education too. What is needed is a minimum standard that all zoos need to comply. There are plenty of zoos out there with spacious enclosures and strong wildlife conservation efforts.

I'm against the fence on this one. I went to the circus last month and was disgusted with the way they were showcasing the elephants. It was the saddest thing to me. Circus and zoos are different in many aspects. I don't feel like animals need to be showcased for entertainment, but for educational purposes I see nothing wrong. Having worked at a zoo, I got to see a bit of what goes on behind the scenes. Those animals are treated so greatly and very well taken care of, some better then humans.

But at the end of the day I believe all animals deserve to be free. I wouldn't want to be caged and watched over my entire life so I don't think it's fair for these animals. Wildlife preserves are so much better.

On the subject of the video, the young man should have never jumped in with the wild animal. They need to do more to make sure the animals and the humans are protected. Praying for him and his family.

zoos are much more than simply caging animals...

They save endangered animals, they allow for science in contained and controlled environments, and allow people to see animals from all over the world.
