Kiwi fans of the Arctic Monkeys are in for a treat when they tour here early next year - they will be among the first to hear new material from the British rock band.
The Monkeys - who are playing two tour dates in Auckland and Wellington as well as the Big Day Out in January next year - are putting the finishing touches on their much-anticipated third album.
The Sun reported they will test drive their new material - being recorded wtih Queens of the Stone Age front man Josh Homme - at their New Zealand shows.
"It was supposed to be a secret," a source told The Sun.
"The lucky few fans in Wellington were going to arrive thinking they were attending a little warm-up gig before the Big Day Out festival kicks off in Auckland on January 16.
"But, in fact, they will be the first to hear the new album. The lads have basically finished it. They just need to return to the studio to apply some finishing touches early next year."
The band's show at The Powerstation in Auckland has sold out, but tickets to their Wellington show, and to the Big Day Out, are on sale now.
