Some of them are. But songs like Vogue, Like A Prayer and Like A Virgin are all-time pop classics.
12 number ones is great obviously, but I think she's been done really wrong over the years.
The songs that came close like Material Girl, Express Yourself, Frozen, Hung Up, 4 Minutes and others all deserved to be number ones. No way should she have less than Mariah for example. (Even though I love ha)
Not "forgotten," just maybe not used as much. I feel like there is almost "too much" music available to be consumed (thanks to the internet) so now we're just losing track of what was popular 20-30 years ago.
But here in New York: Open Your Heart, Like a Prayer (Madhouse Remix), Dress You Up, [and very RARELY Material Girl] get played the most on AC and rhythmic stations a few times/week. I occasionally hear Take a Bow, Live to Tell on "Lite" stations. The rest of the OP's list I haven't heard at all.
EDIT: Crazy for You also gets airplay once in a blue moon.
The MadHouse remix is such a mess
also, i was going through madonna song titles with my friend the other day and he said he didnt know most of them, then i sung the hooks and he knew straight away.
I only knew of Vogue, Like a Virgin, Papa Don't Preach, and Music. People always say Take a Bow is remembered but i literally have never heard the song and I live in the US.
I wouldn't say they're forgotten but nobody under 25 knows any of those songs (unless they're white European homosexuals/pop forum members)
I'm 16 and all my friends know at the least what 'like a prayer', 'like a virgin and' 'vogue' sound like, and know the general lyrics (although i do live in the uk)
And she definitely has more remembered songs than say Mariah, Janet, Cyndi, Kylie etc
bold are the 'forgotten', as in they are the ones people don't necessarily immediately think when thinking of madonna
