Having seen the two models in real life I'm so glad I stuck to my gut and got the 4.7' model, the 5.5' is just impractical. It's big for the sake of it, serving no purpose. It's too small to serve as an iPad and too big to be a phone. The whole "bigger is better" mentality here is to blame. That and of course the sheep effect with the 6+ being more popular and selling out. It made anyone wanting to grab the 4.7" version question themselves.
I see lots of people regretting the plus

I arrived when I did, and I was 10th in line. By the time we started getting into the mall, it was up to 300+ people. There was a riot, ugh, it was a lot. If you google search, "iPhone 6 Lenox Mall," you'll see some of the news stories.

The crowd control police unit was called to various stores in my area too

Lines with 500+ people and less than 30 plus models.
