That was a joke. It's definitely campy, but what Katy Perry song isn't? That sound is very trendy right now, and in the early 90s, this was "the popular sound" -- for everyone. Like I said, they had entire Jock Jams compilations dedicated to mainstream deep house (and let's not forget 2009-2012 when only dance music dominated--surely males of all sexual orientations were streaming and downloading those songs).

Walking on Air would surely smash UK market as of now - 90s dance is getting so much recognition

It was #50 after SNL Maybe slw is right and Rupaul's drag race can give it the proper boost.

Let's not rewrite history. Birthday's iTunes performance was abysmal, TIHWD's is MUCH better. Birthday peaked at #31 on Spotify, TIHWD is at #23. All with MUCH less airplay. And let's not even talk about the video views.
Callout also MUCH better than Birthday's.
Birthday callout (net pos)
5/9: 23.2 (51.0 pos, 27.8 neg)
5/16: 24.6 (51.5 pos, 26.9 neg)
5/23: 26.2 (52.9 pos, 26.8 neg)
5/30: 26.8 (53.7 pos, 26.9 neg)
6/6: 27.0 (54.6 pos, 27.6 neg)
6/13: 24.9 (54.1 pos, 29.2 neg)
6/20: 23.1 (53.7 pos, 30.6 neg)
TIHWD callout (net pos)
9/5: 23.6 (52.8 pos, 29.2 neg)
9/12: 29.6 (55.3 pos, 25.7 neg)
Even if TIHWD peaks here, it will have done better than Birthday in every way except airplay. So at least the era is looking up again.

You're wrong. If the GP really liked TIHWD it would have smashed without radio airplay.
There are plenty of examples, including some by Katy Perry where a song flies up the iTunes charts without radio airplay.
TIHWD isn't trendy. It sounds dated. It sounds like a TD reject.
Like everyone else is saying...MOVE ON.

KWorb, you don't have access to MScores, or hear back from PDs and MDs who conduct local research via Listener Driven Radio (for smaller markets) or independently funded and outsourced research (for bigger markets). Mediabase callout is certainly a factor, but many stations, especially in the bigger markets, want more reliability and variables.

So? Even if what you say is true, that kind of local testing doesn't mean much. They all dropped Birthday from their playlists right after it peaked. Its collapse was almost historic.

You have to look at the overall picture. It was always painfully clear that the GP hated Birthday, and they don't hate TIHWD. No matter how you personally feel about these songs, this can't be denied.

Birthday and TIHWD were just wrong move from the label, an anomaly of her perfect streak of singles! The first time I listened to Prism, I knew these two songs will never make it big and both times they were released I was hoping I'm wrong. They're too generic, trashy, and forgettable, no novelty value and I'm not surprised the GP did not like both!
Now it's Legendary Lovers or just don't release anything else! WoA will be snubbed undeservedly, as well as Double Rainbow, Ghost, Choose Your Battles and It Takes Two! Prism has so many good songs to choose from, and the label choose to release these generic tracks! SMH Now her chances of winning Grammy's are even smaller!
Just let this single die, it's not going to be a sleeper hit, at lease we got a good video and we reach 700 pages
