The use of the word to mean "bad" only exists because of the words connotation with homosexuality though. It means "bad" because being labeled as homosexual is bad. That's literally the entire reason people use "gay" to mean "bad" or "stupid." People didn't use "gay" as an insult when the word predominantly meant happy. They use it as an insult because it is widely understood to mean homosexual in this day and age.

People aren't being "too easily offended." You (along with Dark_Lorde) are being intentionally obtuse and trying to pretend that the usage of the word to mean "stupid" just happened to come along sometime after the word was used to mean homosexual. We all know that's not true.
