It actually is fairly common. bell hooks did that as well.
I don't doubt that. It's just a bit odd to place such importance on a capital letter, as if it something so austere/magical/special that using it has some sort of power. It's putting religion into grammar which is something it does not need to concern itself with. Though bell hooks' reason isn't religious.
