Most of the time, yes. There's something intrinsically satisfying to them.
I always wish there was real sacrifice on the path to these happy endings though. Too many movies and shows show the protagonist experiencing some loss (of say a lover, friend, ally, pet, ability, health, etc.) and then at the end have that person/thing come back and take away any sense of hardship, death, and finality really. It's my least favorite trope, I'm always complaining that someone should die in a movie/show where there's a war or something that involves many people dying, except for anyone in or related to the main cast. So actually, no? I complain way too much for them.

I wouldn't want something that's just the opposite though (villain winning) since that seems like it'd fall even quicker to being a set of cliches.
