Does it bother you when someone who fits of the 'majority' demographic of society speaks for someone who is a minority, either an ethnic or sexual minority.

For example, a straight girl saying ' Gay people need to get over themselves, gay marriage is already legalized in some states so they should be happy and stop shoving their lifestyle down our throats'

or an old white man saying ' black people are taking over, the president is black and all the popular music is by black artists, they have nothing to complain about'

Im using these examples from what ive heard before, it just bugs me when people try to tell others to 'get over it' when they have and never will expierence what some minority groups go through.

*note* - im not talking about people defending minorities or standing up for their rights, im talking about people saying that they dont have it to bad, should get over it, etc..

There's nothing wrong with someone speaking for a minority; in fact, it can be quite heroic. Using your place of privilege as a platform to draw attention to people less fortunate than you while generally putting your public image and own career/personal life/life at risk is an awesome thing to do.

You should do some research on Judy Garland and then you'll understand why all gay men are Friends of Judy.

i worded the title wrong, im not talking about people defending minorities or helping them fight for their rights. im talking about people who say that minorities should just 'get over' the injustice that they have faced, or that they dont have it 'that bad'.

im not one of those people who get angry over those who try to fight for our rights, thats why im not one of those insecure gays that hate on gaga cause she 'ruined the communty's image' by being progessive and speaking about the issues

It annoys me when somebody outside of the minority tries to say that people in the minority are complaining about nothing. Like for instance I'm a woman and whenever I hear a man say that sexism is over and women have nothing to complain about/fight for anymore it drives me insane. How the hell would you know?!

Yes because those people ultimately dont really know how it is to be a minority its good to be a ally though except when your a ally that acts like youre persecuted for being a ally.
