When did Gaga become an Icon ? What was her defining moment or maybe what "chain of events" led to her "obtaining" the status Icon ? Because I am pretty sure we can all agree she is one of the biggest Icons of our generation.

I believe 2010 was her year. Like she was so big back then, she literally cementer her status as an Icon.

Had the best selling album WW. (TFM 5.5M plus The Fame also sold 2.5M that year so that's 8M albums in 1 year)
2nd and 4th best selling songs WW. (IFPI: Bad Romance 9.7M, Telephone 7.4M)
Won her first 2 grammys, had one of the most talked about performances with Elthon John.
Obliterated the VMAs. It seemed like it was MTV Gaga Awards. Record for the most nominations in 1 night, the only Artist in history to have 2 videos nominated for Video of the year the same year, won 7 awards for 1 video (8 awards overall).
Announced her album Born This Way which led to one of the most anticipated album releases of all time.
