OOTB (Pop-rock) sounds nothing like TD/Prism tho (Bubblegum pop, pop).

And let's be honest, Taylor is the one who sounds the same all the time. Maybe that's why she's so local and flop in Europe 'cause we don't use country music/artists here.

I wouldn't say her OOTB music sounds the same. That was an oversight on my part... her "samey" songs didn't really start till TD. And Uncle doesn't sound like DH, but certainly sounds like Firework.

Not having a signature sound =/= being diverse. It just means she has a very generic sound, like anyone could sing her songs. Again, I'm not talking about genre. I'm talking about the fact that when you strip her songs down to the melody, the vocal delivery, etc. they sound largely the same, especially when you put them in the context of all the songs Luke and/or Bonnie have created over the last few years.

SIO is one song. The point is that a huge number of Katy's songs have that style chorus.

And I just meant the part of LL's chorus that I highlighted. That line has the same delivery she uses on so many songs to force her lyrics to fit the music (un-con-dish-ah-null also comes to mind). It's very repetitive and drains her songs of any personality to me.

Yeah because State Of Grace sounds like Fifteen, Love Story sounds like SIO and Mean sounds like I Knew You Were Trouble..

Again with the "dark era" references. I hope you know that she said that because a comedian named Kristen Wiig said "What I love about your music is that its so fun and colorful" and Katy replied "Ya, well my music's about to get real ****ing dark". It was a joke and people took it out of context.

I'm also pretty sure that the intention of this era wasn't for it to be dark, because why would she have called it PRISM and made the tagline "Let the light in"?

Why is everyone so hung-up on genre?

Like, most artists stick largely with one genre for their entire careers. That does not mean their music is safe or all sounds alike. Madonna's discography is almost entirely pop/dance, but that says nothing about how "safe" or "unsafe" her music was over the years.

Katy Perry. Even though I stan for her, her music is less diverse then Taylor's and she stays in the same region of pop. While One of the Boys is more pop-rock and Teenage Dream is bubblegum pop and Prism does show a more mature and evolving sound, Taylor is more diverse.

Taylor on the other hand has experimented with many different genres. While her debut and Fearless were all country, Speak Now took a risk by turning semi-pop and more pop on Red. 1989 will be her first full on pop album which is a pretty big risk for her considering a huge amount of her fan base our country fans but she will gain new ones in the process.

Taylor, Katy has always played it safe and generic.

People saying going pop isn't risky for Taylor Obviously it wouldn't be risky if she was pop from the start, but abandoning her country roots completely is very risky for her. Not because Pop music is risky as a whole, but because she could potentially alienate a complete portion of her fanbase.

It's kinda funny how people on this site keep going on about how Taylor will flop, or that she won't get as many grammy's as before, because she's pop now- and then say going pop isn't risky for her.

In addition to this she's taken many other Risks, such as writing Speak Now completely by herself with no co-writes, complete with many 5-6 Minute songs. Then suddenly shifting to complete Pop with WANEGBT, and Red having tons of variety such as rock, arena rock, country, folk, bubblegum pop, etc. Then completely abandoning Country with 1989...

Taylor going pop is not risky especially since she hasn't been full-on country since her debut album. It's been a shift, each album is more and more pop. In addition, the shift is occurring because she is looking for more success. She's not "abandoning" the hardcore country fan base, because she stopped caring about them years ago and hasn't ever catered specifically to them. I mean she's been working with Max Martin the past two albums, there is 0 risk for her in this. It's just getting safer and safer.

The OP solely used genre in their argument, so that's why it stays being brought up. When you experiment with different genres (especially when those genres are widely different and not "folky pop to indie"), your music is more diverse.
