The problem is, the franchise is called "The Sims" and the Sims 4 focuses on "The Sims".
The new build mode has been designed to be easier, so that people build their houses quicker to play with The Sims. The game forces you to use Create-A-Sim when you start a new game. It's obvious their focus is on The Sims this era, rather than matching the carpet with the curtains, or watching your Sim travel to work.
Create-A-Sim for me, is the best in the franchise. I can honestly make nearly any kind of person in my head, and the game is so good at creating Sims with individuality. There are almost no flaws with this part of the game.
Build/Buy mode is kind of the only part where they game falls short for me. There just aren't enough options, and a lot of features need to be implemented again. In saying that, with the features that are there, people have been able to make houses that the Sims franchise was never able to.
Live mode is where the game shines. There's just so much more to do. I can't fault anything except the mechanics of the loading screens, because they could have done them much better. I don't mind them being there, but they could have at least done them Bustin Out style when you travel from mini world, to mini world.
But there shouldn't be a loading screen to go from house to house.

I think what most people are angry over, are things that were bonus extra's to the franchise. Not core features.
EA have focused on remaking the core features, rather than quickly implementing them and chucking in some new ones and calling it The Sims 4. They decided to start from scratch. Once they start adding new features, we will start seeing progress. The Sims 4 is rebuilt from the ground up.
The Sims 3 was able to be so full of content, because EA used the same engine as The Sims 2, with the same animations, and just made it open world. Most of the animations in the Sims 3 are taken from the Sims 2, and they quickly added some new ones. And the engine was also the same. Problem is, because EA took shortcuts, the Sims 3 is glitchy, laggy and incomplete.
The Sims 4 was completely rebuilt, not using any coding from it's previous games. And what it does, it does great (minus the loading screens). But because they had to rebuild it, we got less features in the game.
So I'm in this for the long haul. I think people are dissmissing it to early tbh. I think The Sims 4 has the potential to be the best in franchise.
Problem is, I don't think it will live up to that potential.
