Apparently Joan Rivers is the only woman to ever get a late night show on one of the big channels, and that was years ago. She also got a lot of flack for it from Johnny Carson, who was sexist and felt betrayed by her for leaving his show or something. The late night world has always been a man's world.

This is going to change within the next 5-10 years, and there WILL be a woman hosting a late night show on a big channel. The demand for it will continue to grow in a society that where women are continuing to gain the respect and recognition they deserve.

Kathy Griffin or Chelsea Handler (Kathy is way better than Chelsea though).

Kathy is one of the most polished and well-timed comedians I've ever watched. Her humor is similar to Joan Rivers.

It's going to take a lot longer than 5-10 years. Considering the hosts of the "main" shows usually hold onto their jobs for ~20 years, it'll be a while before a woman gets a shot. Maybe for one of the follow-up shows (ie The Late Late Show, Late Night, etc.) but even then I doubt it. Kathy mentioned this in the article, but it seems like the next generation of female comedians is our best hope.

Now would've been the perfect time because the entire CBS line-up is getting overhauled.

I don't find Kathy all that funny, her act is really cheesy. But good for her for speaking out about this.

You know who they should give a talk show to? Sarah Silverman. I know it'd probably be a ratings disaster and the network would be plagued with complaints/suits, but if she could give her own spin on the late night talk show it'd kick ass. Though even if it did work out, she'd probably quit after three seasons because she doesn't really stick around doing anything for long.

Tina Fey or Amy Poehler, especially Amy, would be great too.

I really don't think Sara Silverman and Katy Griffin is that much different.

The simple truth is that most of the people that watch these types of late night shows have a negative opinion of "bawdy" comedic women... such as the Joan Rivers's, Sarah Silverman's, Katy Griffin's, and Chelsea Handler's of the world...

...now Tina or Amy would be their ideal for a female late night host, because their humor is mostly harmless...I could see that working, tbh.

! This. It will be so nice to see a change and for the networks to break away from just hiring straight white comedians.

Amy would be the better choice. She can relate to more people than Kathy. Insult comediennes get old fast.
