Disagree with that statement. Since the beginning Rihanna being from the Caribbean was always a part of her "marketing" so the island sound is present in all of Rihanna albums. It may not be as prominent as it was on her first two albums but unlike other artists a reggae track is guaranteed on a Rihanna album.

That is a good point. But if none or very few of the singles are "Island" nor are they even standout album tracks and the ones that are singles are not considered her signature songs., I don't really think that its a signature style. She may own it more than anyone else but if asked to describe Rihanna's sound would you say "Island" and leave it at that? You could say "R&B" for Beyoncé and it would make sense.
I suppose "Pop" could work for Rihanna, though that is a much broader term and pop doesn't really have a definitive style of it's own, as it is constantly changing.
Anyway, I'm in no way arguing that Rihanna won't last a while in the industry. I believe she will.
