Nowhere in DoE's policy does it say anything about cameras not being allowed or anything about the students' privacy being protected and thus not allowing anyone to record the students.

Policies change all the time without being updated. Fact of the matter is, Nicki could have easily still went if she didn't bring the cameras, but I guess she only wants to inspire people when she can be filmed for the world to see.

UNAUTHORIZED, inapproriate use of technology would be students recording other students doing something to embarass them, for example. Not a TV crew coming to film a documentary. That would be authorized, as long as it went through the principal.

And it quite clearly states that any video or audio has to be authorized by the Student.

This proves that the email most probably was fake, and that the privacy/camera question wasn't the issue.

Or the principal could've let the students sign to agree to be filmed so that Nicki could use it for her documentary and the students, who would've loved to see her, would all be happy.

But that obviously wasn't the problem.

Actually each student would have to authorize it. Since they are humans and it's basic human rights. lmao.

Again, that obviously wasn't the actual problem because it could easily be solved. There were other reasons. They just didn't allow her to do it, oh well.

Unauthorized would be any use of a camera that the administration doesn't authorize, meaning if they don't authorize Nicki filming then said filming would be unauthorized. It is in no way "weird" or out of place for a school to say "no" to filming because allowing filming would mean they would then have to go and make sure each student signs a waiver and that their parents agree to them being filmed. It's a privacy and even a security issue that some schools just don't want to deal with. Nicki isn't a rare case, this happens a lot.

If she wants to inspire, she would still do it.

Whether it's there or not, it's still a law that it's illegal to record minors. She could've told the cameras to go away, but she didn't. Bringing cameras in would've broken the law and could have gotten the school sued

actually, UNAUTHORIZED means exactly that... UNAUTHORIZED as in there's no permission from the school, the NYC board of education and every single person being filmed.

it's more complicated with students because they have to get parents' permission too and it is NOT the principal's obligation to go out of her way to get all that done just for nicki to film herself.
