I wanted to make a threading about trying to grow my hair. I have a thick hair that grows slowely and can look sheepish. I want by the end of spring 2015 or summer have long hair below my ears. Do you have any hair care advice ? How do I speed up my hair growth and limit this annoying thickness. Any general good hair advice ?
My hair naturally gets long so I'm not sure what you could do or use to grow it out. But using apple cider vinegar and virgin coconut oil (separately) really helps my hair stay full and long and reduces any tangles or breakage.
I've been growing my hair from buzzcut for 9 months now and it's currently at jaw/shoulder length! The only problem I have with it is that it's so thick and straight that it sometimes gets uncontrollably poofy and annoying.
I have curly hair at about jaw length (if I would straighten them it would be about shoulder lenght and longer) I just let them grow.. takes patience coconut oil helps a bit tho.
Past ear length, hmm. You didn't mention whether your hair was straight, wavy or curly.
My hair is past my ass so I know a little bit about growing your hair out.
- Silk/satin pillowcases instead of regular cotton/polyester/rayon so it doesn't snag at your hair.
- Don't rub a towel on your head. It's actually best to use an old 100% cotton t-shirt, put it against your head and squish the water out. Squish. Not rub. No rubbing.
- CONDITION YOUR HAIR. If it's getting too oily, it's actually because you're overwashing your hair. Slowly ease up on how often you use shampoo. Anyone washing their hair every single day is doing it very, very wrong. Especially if they're not using a conditioner. Dry hair = fragile hair = flyaways/frizziness = you having to cut off the ends because they're too thin/damaged. If your hair is straight, no more than 4x a week should shampoo touch your head. Curly, no more than 2x. Natural hair oils are vital to your hair health.
- For thickness, just ask your hair stylist to thin it out for you. It can be done twice a year safely. I don't know if you can thin out really short hair. Conditioner will also help reduce the bulk a lot. If you are currently conditioning and it's not making a dent in the volume, pick a thicker conditioner.
- I've heard fish oil supplements and biotin can help hair growth
I've been growing my hair for 10 months now and I can put it almost in a bun like in the pictures posted above. I have very thick straight hair so it looks 'sheepish' as you said when I wash it. I will grow it for a couple months more and then probably dye it a lighter color. You just have to be patient and ask your hairdresser to thin it out, I only did it once since letting it grow out a couple of months ago, but I need to do it again soon.
My hair is pretty long (up to my bum) but I don't recall doing anything specific trying to get it to its current length. I've heard that natural blackstrap molasses actually helps progress hair growth, though.
