Under Billboard rules, an EP is usually 4-6 songs. RIAA defines an EP as 3-5 songs. With common sense, an EP should be a shortened album. 8 songs, when albums these days stop at 9-11 now, is basically a whole album.
The only reason TFM/Paradise/Versus/Cannibal were promoted as EPs in America (majority of countries define them as albums due to their lengths) were to get extra $$$ as a "new release". It's much more visible than only re-packaging the original album. TFM for example is like ~40 minutes with the Bad Romance remix, while standard full-length LP averages 40-45 minutes.
So Meghan actually got the EP right.
