You do realize by calling Miley's sales disappointing, you're calling Ariana's a catastrophic bomb.
|
No because Ariana isn't anywhere close to Miley's position last year.
Ariana is selling singles because she is the IT girl right now, but her fanbase isn't big enough to pulll huge numbers.
Katy had two #1 hits when she released Teenage Dream and she sold less than 200k because she didn't have a big base.

And 7 #1s later and she still didn't open with 300k, yet you're here dragging Miley's opening week sales.
Miley's interest last year was largely negative, compared to Ariana's being largely positive. Ariana got the bigger promo schedule and arguably the bigger hits, and since you're so set on comparing the 2 - Miley opening up with nearly 300k while Ariana couldn't break 200k is a vast difference.
And yes, Miley and Ariana were considerably coming from the same situation with Yours Truly and Can't Be Tamed (both mediocre eras), but Miley was the one that took a 3 year break and was able to come back and double her first week sales while Ariana released 1 year later after coming off a hit single + opening up with 400k out the gate with Problem. Miley's sales were objectively more impressive/fine. Anyone with normal expectations would've expected Ariana to be doing better than this.

I'm not dragging Miley's opening week sales. It's the opposite. You don't get it. Waste too much time posting that rude smilies and don't care to understand what i am saying.
Hits and singles don't translate into big debut weeks. Artists like Kanye West. Coldplay etc. can do better first week sales without hit singles than many of the artists who are selling singles.

Shoulda been more but 160k isn't bad. Maps is still increasing and Animals is going to smash, plus The Voice will promo it like crazy and with the holidays coming, it should sell pretty consistently from here on out.

Could the Miley stans stop, please? Nobody expected Ariana's second album to open with 1M+ copies when her first album barely scanned gold. Miley has higher expectations because she's sold like 15M albums in her career in the U.S. and is a lot more established than Ariana.
