For the desktop there's Video Takeover, in which brands can "own the ad break" with sponsored videos that will air during normal ad breaks, as opposed to audio spots. Obviously, the videos will only be seen if the desktop client is in view, otherwise it will just sound like a regular ad. The mobile-based Sponsored Sessions gives brands a chance to own 30 minutes of uninterrupted music on your device. The catch? To get that 30-minute rock/rap/country/whatever block, users must first watch a :15 or :30 video.

I understand that they need money, but I ain't happy with obstructive advertising. Especially on a MUSIC platform that now offers video advertising.

Their desktop client is so sluggish anyway, I have a feeling this will make it worse. I've been edging off them for a while and this feels like the final push if it is as bad as I'm expecting (if it's not then I'll deal).

Video advertising will be worth more to advertisers, they'll be able to charge more for the space. I know advertising can be annoying, but it really is the glue that holds everything together. Without ad space, cheap/free content is simply impossible to maintain. People need to keep the lights on/put food on their tables.

Ugh please don't be that way. Beats don't deserve ****. They piggyback their brand on the backs of their music stars through lazy and haphazard product placement. Spotify are the ones who pioneered the streaming market from the very beginning. They built it themselves through innovation. They are the ones who deserve to remain #1 as streaming continues to pick up steam.

If Beats just leverages their connections and bullies their way into the market, pushing the TRUE INNOVATORS out into the fray, I'll be pissed. It's not fair. They don't deserve it.
