You do know that English as a major language for international relations is something quite recent, right? Came with the advents of globalization and the rise of the U.S.A. as world's most powerful country/economy, it's also why the American Dollar is the international currency for trade...

I think the invasion, degradation & infiltration of the native ppl/cultures highlighted in the OP aka The British Empire more than trumps the few technological, scientific/medicinal & entertainment gains Murika has given.
The British gave many of those countries their first true meaning of suffering & war. USAer's could never.
