Atlanta Hawks co-owner Bruce Levenson has agreed to sell his controlling interest in the team after revealing to the NBA he had sent a racist email in 2012, commissioner Adam Silver announced Sunday.

According to a press release from the commissioner’s office, Levenson notified the league of the email this July and following an investigation, agreed to divest in a meeting with Silver on Saturday night.

“As Mr. Levenson acknowledged, the views he expressed are entirely unacceptable and are in stark contrast to the core principles of the National Basketball Association,” Silver said in the statement. “He shared with me how truly remorseful he is for using those hurtful words and how apologetic he is to the entire NBA family.”

The thing that gets me about all this racism in the NBA is the the fact that the NBA itself is a black league

I could understand if these were like Hockey owners or something but like...95% of the NBA roster is black. The stars are black, the people bringing in all of the money are black. Like where is the logic?

It doesnt seem racist as much as it reads like its poorly worded. People who buy tickets to ball games are predominantly white people, especially in more expensive seats...so he could have just said he wanted to market to them more...

saying they have more money isnt offensive, its fact. But thinking that someone wouldnt by a ticket because theyll be black people there is offensive, racist and idiotic. If you're threatened by someone based on the color of their skin youre racist and have mental problems. And assuming the white demographic that hes going for is racist and he wants to appeal to that is racist, he is racist

This doesn't read that much racist to me [in comparison to what Sterling said]

I get the feeling this may have been orchestrated to sell the team at a higher price because of the emotions and sympathy. Sterling's team sold for 4 times its value if i remember correctly ($2 Billion) , they may have planned this just to get more , sounds weird but worse things have have happened in the world and i wouldn't put some people past this .....

Yes, his assumptions are a little off...but remember this is Atlanta GEORGIA. The white people going to the game are likely evenly split between open minded urbanites and conservatives from suburban and rural Georgia. Things like white flight are real, so he isnt so wrong to think white people might have a fear of black people...no matter how wrongthat reality is.
