Quote:
Lorde spent her Labor Day weekend in Asbury Park, N.J., but it was a working vacation.
The 17-year-old New Zealand singer recorded the first single from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 at Lakehouse Recording Studios. The artist got a great referral to the Asbury Park location: Bruce Springsteen.
"They said they got a call from the Springsteen camp, who referred us," said owner Jon Leidersdorrf.
Lorde’s new song for the upcoming soundtrack for “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1” will be finished this weekend, says the singer’s label head, Jason Flom.
“[The sound] is going to be a real surprise to Lorde fans, but it’s also in the spirit of her album,” Flom says at Magnises’ party and Rick Ross concert Friday night at Villain in Williamsburg. Lorde recorded the yet-unnamed track with Grammy-winning producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Coldplay, U2, Bruno Mars) who flew in for the two-day session, which took place from Aug. 28-29. The track was engineered by Matt Wiggins, who took time out from a recording session with U2 to make the trek to New Jersey, and Lakehouse engineer Eric Romero.
Lorde shared lyrics to the song on her Twitter page, which Leidersdorrf confirmed are the opening lines. "I'm a princess cut from marble, smoother than a storm," read the handwritten words.
