I have in the past, but honestly, not really We shouldn't be breeding more domestic animals when there's already an overabundance of them, most of which don't have good homes. Let's focus on the ones we have before making more.
I prefer adopting dogs and cats, but adopting fish/snakes/reptiles/amphibians isn't exactly a common thing that I know of, so those I can understand? I mean and technically buying them is good, because most pet stores aren't keeping them properly and I'd rather pay to take care of them properly, because it's a small price to pay for their lives...
I bought my betta from Petco 3 years ago, and he's kicking still, granted if I didn't buy him, he would have been dead in a week or two, because Betta's contrary to popular belief, cannot be kept in those small bowls/cups you see them in, they require at least a gallon or more of space...
As a pet person I think about this often, I think it's totally acceptable to buy but ppl should reconsider and rethink about the thousands and thousands of animals in shelters
My dad bought my first dog (12 years; R.I.P. ) from a friend after his dog had puppies. I'm not against buying a dog, however, I would probably adopt one first before I go out and spend money on one.
really? When I've adopted (cats) the cost was around 100 dollars, whereas the prices for animals in pet stores is in the thousands.
The animal shelters where I live are very expensive. My dad has always wanted to adopt a pet but has found buying animals much more efficient and not as costly. I'm going to adopt one when I am out by myself tbh. I want to make a difference to an animal.
Everyone should adopt from a shelter. There's no reason to be breeding these animals just for sale.
Agreed.
The only time I would buy a pet as opposed to adopting is because well, I want a specific breed or type. I'm sure you can find one like that in adoption centers but if you're looking for a rare one or want to make sure its 100% pure bred it'll be slightly harder adopting it.
But I'm not that type of person so I'd rather adopt
