Ukraine isn't a big market at all, they might have 50 million people but the average person in Ukraine earns 15x less than the average Dutch. Ukraine's GDP per capita is comparable to some of the poorer African nations. And next to that, the majority of the Ukrainians voted for a pro-EU president.

But when they wanted to sign a trade agreement, Russian basically gave them money in return for Ukraine not signing it, which caused protests from the pro-Europeans, which then made the Russians feel the need to 'protect the Russians in Ukraine' by doing what they're currently doing.

To compare the economy of Ukraine to poorer African countries is very inaccurate and shows your lack of knowledge about the situation in which Ukraine is. Yes, they are facing an economic crisis right now. That doesnt contradict however the huge economic potential of Ukraine. My country was in a very similar situation 20 years ago and we went from -11, 62% to +6, 22% GDP growth in only 4 years. The same will most likely happen to Ukraine, considering how well developped their industrial base is including for example their own aerospace and computer engineering. Its not some third world economic as you make it seem.
Not to mention their natural resources, especially their soil. More than 30 % of the worlds most fertile (and very rare) black soil/chernozem is in Ukraine. The studies show that if Ukrainian soil was cultivated much more effectively, Ukraine alone would be able to feed the whole Europe. So yes, Ukraine is a very perspective market.

But lets be real, what you seem to be too blind and biased to see is the fact that Ukraine is now only a chessboard for two power hungry military superpowers and your point of view/medial presentation is based only on which side of barricade you stand, with media trying to antagonize the other side and hide their own filth.
