That wasn't education. To believe that is to believe that the 1960 civil rights movement was the only civil rights movement in the world and nothing can ever be likened to it. Nobody is trying to downplay how big of a movement that is, but people seem to forget that movement was "equality for all", not "superiority for one race". This is a great initiative, but even if the SCOUS has ruled against same-sex marriages bans, having such a wide-range decision obviously has its risks. Can anyone walk me around what are the possibilities of SCOUS's rulings being overturned and the strength their decisions pose over state laws?

My point is that, back then, opponents of anti-slavery legislation were ardent supporters of "states rights" and opposed Constitutional amendments and other "one size fits all" approaches to tackling the issue once and for all. Just like how opponents of gay marriage vehemently oppose one ultimate, nationwide ruling. In this regard, they're perfectly comparable.
