Dark Horse was the first urban*pop song to hit #1 in the recent years but you don't see Katy stans swearing that she brought urban music to the mainstream because music was already shifting to that direction. Hell Gaga wasn't even the first female popstar in the recent years to get an electro pop #1 hit. That was Rihanna with 2 songs.
As far as giving importance to music videos again, that credit goes to Vevo and Youtube not some lame hasbeen.

Elvis grew up in the South and borrowed from R&B, a new, black genre at the time, and mixed it with bluegrass, an old, white genre at the time. He never stole anything and made sure to cite his R&B and bluegrass influences often.

The 1940s was the creation of rock'n'roll due to black and white people moving together in cities and playing African styles on European instruments.

Actually, she did. Billboard, MTV, numerous other artists DJs and producers credit her and RedOne for that. RedOne has talked about how numerous well known DJs have thanked him for opening up the door for them to work in mainstream pop music.....before they were just making club mixes of pop songs, and now they were making actual radio versions for pop songs because their style was becoming a bigger trend.
