At the end of the day it's a solo hit not matter what. Fancy features Charli xcx and Black Widow featured Rita. If iggy wanted to song the chorus she could have, BUT she didnt.
I've seen some barbs and Iggy haters use the line that Iggy can only smash with collabs while Nicki Minaj is smashing with the peusod-solo "Anaconda", but can it really be considered Minaj's song?
The entire work is carried by the 1992 production taken directly from "Baby Got Back", Sir Mix-A-Lot does the hook himself and Nicki's "oh my god look at her butt" addition to the chorus is merely an interpolation of a line in the original song. Nobody I've heard reference the song's verses, only the chorus and that was not Nicki's work. At least in "Fancy" for example, there were iconic lines such as "First things first I'm the realest" and "Who dat?" etc.
Should Anaconda be labelled (feat. Sir Mix-A-Lot) since it's mostly his work?
Or perhaps "Baby Got Back (Nicki Minaj Remix)?
You have to kidding me. Hip Hop is a genre full of songs with SAMPLES.
Its her song.
Ya'll are TRULY seething to see Nicki succeed. Its so sad.
It's a solo song because she's the only one credited on it. That's it. People can discuss it all they want, but it's staying a solo song no matter what. Same with Super Bass, it has Ester Dean on the chorus, but it's still a solo hit for Nicki since she's the only one credited.
Same with songs like Wake Me Up by Avicii. Yeah, maybe Aloe Blacc did most of the work, but that counts as a solo song since it's credited to just Avicii.
I can find probably a hundred songs which use samples don't feature the orignal singer. There are a few that do (like Dido on Stan, Dev on Like a G6, Enya on I Don't Wanna Know, Lily Allen on 5 O'Clock), but most of the time they don't get credited). It's quite normal to sample someone and not feature them. As long as you pay them a share of the royalties it's fine.
Nobody was complaining that Etta James wasn't credited on Good Feeling, or that Janet Jackson wasn't credited on Peotic Justice.
