Man changed his name from José to Joe and then miraculously received not one but numerous job offers. The level of ignorance in this world is atrocious. Joe is a more Caucasian name.

Since I first heard it when I was little I never liked the name José it reminded me of hoses. I think the reason is many think a "José" could be a recent immigrant and they want to give the job to people who've lived there for generations ("Joe") instead of outsourcing.

By the way, this is why Chinese always adopt Western names.

For example "Li Bo Chang" might change his name to "John Chang".

Why should they assume that the person is an illegal immigrant. Job applications in the U.S. have a box for the person to check if they are either a citizen or a resident.

The same crap is probably pulled whenever they see a name that they deem "too African-American" (i.e. the usual cliches like Keisha or Tyrone). It has nothing to do with legal status.

Maybe you're right. But I wouldn't hire a "Leslie", a "Fabio" or a "Francis" either John Wayne had to change his name from "Marion" to start his career.

i really dislike the name jose. only because the j is pronounced like h and i almost failed spanish because of pronunciations like that. such a shame we live in a society that won't hire you because of what race your name sound like though.

I first thought it was pronounced "Josey", as in "Josey Wales". The correct pronunciation messes me up so I just avoid saying most Spanish words aloud
