Joan Rivers, 81, remains in serious condition at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She has reportedly been taken out of her medically-induced coma, and an upcoming taping of Fashion Police has been canceled, as doctors assess the extent of possible brain damage, HollywoodLife.com can confirm. Joan, who joked about a “little procedure” before going into cardiac arrest, was reportedly taken out of her coma on Sept. 1 and doctors are now assessing the damage done after she stopped breathing during throat surgery on Aug. 28.
Family fears that Joan’s motor functions have been severely impacted and that the comedian may be left in a wheelchair or even in a vegetative state, a source revealed to the New York Daily News. Joan’s family is also considering a lawsuit against the clinic which administered her Aug. 28 throat surgery.Joan’s hit show Fashion Police scheduled a taping to center around New York Fashion Week, but sadly, Joan is too ill to commentate on one of the biggest fashion events of the year.
“We will not be producing a Fashion Police this week or next as we await Joan and Melissa’s return in front and behind the camera,” a spokesperson for E! exclusively confirmed to HollywoodLife.com. In lieu of the previously-planned Fashion Week Fashion Police episode with Joan, the network will be airing two NYFW specials. Daughter Melissa Rivers‘ most recent statement only said that the family is “keeping [their] fingers crossed,” while an earlier report from the NY Daily News alleged that Melissa is “in denial” about the severity of her mother’s condition. So sad.
As ever, our thoughts go out to the family during this difficult time and we can only hope for the legendary comedian’s recovery.
My heart stopped, I thought it was cancelled forever. Of course it'd be off air until Joan recovers, and god forbid she doesn't, then end it all together. Joan IS fashion police
Somewhere Gaga is smiling.
The show needs to be cancelled forever.
To be honest. Joan had her day and it's nice this show gave her a platform to... carry on with, but it really was a negative show and just another droplet contributing to the destruction of civilized humanity.
