Gaga inspires fan to come out
Quote:
Just a few weeks ago, Beau Lamarre's family did not know he was gay.
But, the "hype" of his idol Lady Gaga coming to town gave the 19-year-old the courage to come out.
After all, he had confessed his fear to her when he she was last in Sydney for the Born This Way tour.
So, after years of feeling afraid, Lamarre told his parents two weeks ago. "I will always love and support you," his mum told him.
Then, on Saturday night in Sydney, he threw a note onto the stage. Gaga plucked it from the multitude of other offerings and read it aloud to her thousands of adoring "little monsters".
"Two years ago I also met you at this arena for the Born This Way Ball where my life changed forever," she read. "I had told you something I never had the courage to tell anyone before.
"I told you that I didn't know how to come out to my family about my sexuality and I was scared to. You told me something I will never forget. 'If your parents love you as much as I believe they do, they will accept you for who you are.'
"Those words right there gave me a backbone to be brave and tell them. Now, two years later, I finally have and I feel FREE! You were right, my parents have been nothing but supportive."
Hearing Gaga read the note was the first time Lamarre's sister, who was with him at the concert, learned of his sexuality.
His sister cried, he says, but was happy.
