I don't post on here often mostly because I do not like the system of ATRL but I had to come in and say something on this when I read it.

What this article is basically stating is that The Grammy's (and the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) have lost their credibility and are now awarding those that do not fit the criteria of the category they are nominated for over those that are and rightfully deserve their win.

Why this bothers me as both a musical artist and a musical enthusiast is because this means that the independents will be ignored in favour of what is mainstream or famous. The Grammy's will now be seen as just another Awards Show that nominates and awards based on popularity to support their chance for higher ratings and eventually gain more money.

So naturally, I am furious because I give a damn about all kinda of music and want to see that of which I support succeed in the music industry beyond all the ******** that plagues the music scene right now.

All artists and musicians have a mindset like this:

Music is meant for self-expression. Expression of the mind, heart and soul. It's an extension of imagination and creativity. And it will not take second place to rules and regulations just because one is more famous than another.

If this is the state of The Grammy's and Record Academy of all places then we have absolutely no hope for the Music Industry in general! There goes my dream of ever seeing Demi up on that stage either winning a Grammy or performing for them.

Obviously the mainstream acts will be favored. It's the same for all prestigious award shows. There are amazing independent films released each year that get ignored by the Oscars and Golden Globes. The same with TV shows. Not everyone can be honored, and honestly, I feel like those who accomplished becoming mainstream artists deserve the award to some extent. Also, it's good to know that the committee is constantly recruiting people to be voters. At least we know that everyone voting isn't old and clueless.
